This and That

I went and saw “J. Edgar” it was excellent, should be some Oscars for this one.  November and December are great months for the movies ( there has been little good all year).  I’m looking forward to “Warhorse” coming in December.  On TV been catching up on “The Closer” it’s been out for 5 years and just discovered it.  Deadwood, Mad Men, and Justified who knows when they’ll be back.

Sometime in the 90’s I bought Mike Caro’s Book of Tells,  and promptly lost a boatload acting on the advise therein.   The problem wasn’t his advise it was the games I was in (which were unbelievably good).  The players in my game had no clue as to the strength of their hands.
Here a few easy ones that seem to work for me (most of the time)
·        When someone says “aw sh-t” followed by Bet or Raise best to look out
·        If the food is good at your card room and someone stops eating to play a hand….look out
·        If someone has just gotten even or is ahead and has racked up their chips (getting ready to leave) they are not prone to take a risk unless they have a monster

Whine about wine

I know its been awhile since I have posted which gives me a lot more respect for some of the blogs I read (check out list and links on border).  These folks are more disciplined than I and post on a regular basis.

“Whine about wine” a merchandiser’s paradise, with price points all over the place, and very few wines with any kind of brand identity.   In the seventies I was a marketing rep for a major consumer products company.  My job was to obtain distribution, promotion (advertising and display) and  pricing below my competitors.  All these brands and my competitors were nationally recognized.
Wine, most of us (low end wine lovers) would have trouble mentioning more than 6 brands of wines.  The liquor stores have aisles of wine stocked with products most of us know nothing about.  Even among recognized brand there is a huge latitude in merchandizing.  I have recently become fond of a box wine (Black Box 3 liter) and have seen prices from 15.98 to 28.98 on the same item.

Back from Hills

Back from a nice trip visiting friends and family at Okaboji IA and in SoDak.  Climbing Harney Peak in the Black Hills the highlight of the trip. I played a little poker(3-15 spread) in Deadwood and some NL at a new casino outside of Sioux Falls.
Age must be destroying my olfactory senses, on the interstate I told my wife I could smell starbucks coffee; she said it was a dead skunk.  I'm not sure whether this is a blessing or a curse.

Music is high brow today.  There used to be a tram from the Monte Carlo to the Bellagio and this used to play on it
